I use the program to force myself off the computer and do things in the real world I have to do but will never get to without it. To do that, I have passwords for all my various plans, each stashed away in a really annoying to get to place, just in case I need to change or disable something.
The problem is I can’t really trust myself. If I have to get the code to do something, chances are I’m going to keep it around and use it to disable everything for the next few days, until I finally manage to convince myself to put it away again.
To counter this, I’d like to suggest Focusme integrate one-time or time-limited codes for passwords. Most people are familiar with the time-limited version from two-factor authentication for accounts, but there’s nothing that says they can’t be used in place of passwords for disabling, editing, or pausing plans. I’d love to be able to load it up on a code generator fob to replace my paper notes, so that I can make a one-use or time-limited code that prevents me from abusing it once I’m done. In the case of one-time code, it would allow me to give myself an extra not-break without risking using it for the entire day/week/year.
It could also be used to suppliment/replace the accountability partner function if the code algorithm is compatable with the various phone authenticator apps or added as a function of the Focusme phone app, allowing you to request it from your partner.
This would be especially nice for pause passwords, because you could set the limit to unlimited, but have to go find it or request it from a partner each and every time, which gives nice flexibility.
I’ll be honest, I’d probably even be willing to purchase a special hardware fob from you guys if you decided to make one, just to make it easy. I’ll admit, I have zero clue how hard any of this would be to actually impliment, but I hope it’s worth considering.
