Mobile apps, scan QR code to turn off plan?

I was looking up various devices and apps that let you block apps similarly to focus me and you can only regain access by scanning a physical object. I think it would be very cool if focus me added this feature to android and IOS. You could block things on your phone and leave a QR code in your bike bag- can’t unlock your phone until you go outside. Set a timed plan at bedtime, can only unlock it somewhere else in the house. Etc…

Hello, Killick! Thanks for sharing this idea! We really like the creative thinking behind it. Using a physical QR code as a key to unlock blocked apps is an interesting way to add real-world friction and make it harder to act on impulse. We can definitely see how that could be useful in situations like getting yourself out of the house or sticking to a bedtime routine.

We’ll pass your suggestion along to the team and keep it in mind as we continue improving FocusMe on Android and iOS. Thanks again for taking the time to share it!

Regards,

Lorenz

Great thanks!! There are some analogous products but they are obscenely expensive (especially for multiple) relative to printing and laminating a bunch of QR codes :).

I partially got this idea from an app I use called Alarmy that offers this option as a friction feature, you need to scan the code to turn off your alarm. It has similar hard-lock options as Focus Me, no disabling, can’t turn the phone off. No joke it genuinely changed my life. Went from incredibly disruptive issues waking up to perfect consistency for almost a decade. You simply don’t have a choice, you have to get out of bed and walk to the bathroom (or w/e). I get a glimpse of the past when I turn it off for various reasons, it’s rough.
