Flip phone

Hello everyone,

I've been considering waning myself off the smartphone by using an old fashion flip phone. Is there anyone on here who tried this?
 I'm sure there are video's on Youtube about it, but I want to avoid using that website.

Anyone have any experience with doing this?

Hey Lass86, I love the idea but I can't say I've done that myself yet.

I did uninstall all messaging and social media apps on my phone and it was bliss for a while. But in the end I came back to it.

I'm still looking around for a good dumbphone. I won't get rid of my smartphone entirely. (People around me don't like me getting rid of whatsapp. ) But I won't take my smartphone with me anymore. Just to see what it will do with my state of mind. 

I'll let you know how it goes once I've made a decision.

Honestly, I've tried it, turns it out in my country, finding a flip phone with just the bare minimum (calls, sms, and a clock, but no games(very basic), or radio) seems impossible, I've asked so many telephone shops.

So I settled with one with games, and radio, but I've also found some alternatives on Amazon that might be good candidates, but there are concerns about their SIM capabilities.

Still looking for one with only the radio at least, but any real phones that have neither games nor radio, nor any access to the internet are very expensive (300$ for a flip phone? Seriously?).

As for people around you, I'd tell them: provide me with an alternative that wont distract me, and I'll keep whatsapp, or you're not going to have me on whatsapp. A bit selfish, but people tend to want to make things easier for them, regardless of the consequences of it on you, you're technically doing the same here, wanting to make focusing easier for yourself, while making it harder for others to contact you, but it's really about your priorities, people are not going to care for what's really important for you, if it involves their own priorities.

For people who I really care about, I redirect them to my email, where I can discuss with them matters that really matter to them, plus on devices that have FocusMe restricting them heavily.

Set a few red lines, and people will work around you. They might make jokes, something on the note of "Seriously? Can't you control yourself a bit? You're supposed to be this way!", but they're at the end some words, with nothing concrete.

I have no idea about your experience. But I am curious how much you are willing to spend on a phone? Besides Focusme, what are the must-have apps on your phone. Phones today vary greatly in price and are much more powerful than before. I don't understand why you can't find a suitable phone.

I actually tried going back to a flip phone for about 3 months last year, and it was a wild change at first. The first week was tough because I kept instinctively reaching for my smartphone to “check something”. But after a while, I felt more at ease, less distracted, less boring web surfing, and I slept better too.
