Use Internal Clock & Get Time From Internet - Noah Kahn - 11-27-2024

Hello! I'm wondering what the purpose of the "Use Internal Clock & Get Time From Internet" setting feature is. Is it only to protect the user from changing the time and clock on their computer, so they can't bypass plans? I assume it's more secure than "Block Date & Time Preferences" because I assume there's other ways to change the date and time on a computer not through System Preferences?

And one more question: "Use Internal Clock & Get Time From Internet" says "If you change time zones on your computer, you need to stop all plans for FocusMe to accept the change." So this means if I travel, I need to stop all plans to get them on the new timezone? So "Block Date & Time Preferences" is better for someone who travels a lot?

Thank you FocusMe community!

Hi Noah,

Thanks for reaching out and for your thoughtful questions! Ryan here, I’m happy to help clarify.

1. "Use Internal Clock & Get Time From Internet" ensures that FocusMe relies on the internet time rather than the computer’s local settings. This makes it more secure against attempts to bypass plans by changing the system clock. You’re right—it’s a step up from just blocking access to the date and time settings, as it accounts for other ways someone might alter the time.

2. Regarding time zones, if you travel and change the time zone on your computer (manual or automatic), FocusMe needs to stop all active plans to register the change correctly. This is just a safeguard to ensure everything aligns properly. This is for both getting the time from the internet and locally.

I hope this clears things up! Feel free to reach out anytime if you have more questions—we’re here to help: focusme.com/support

Take care,
Ryan

It is very convenient to be able to change the time zone. Tiny Fishing
