I really love your app, especially the fact that it is very hard to cheat and disable.
However, I have unfortunately found a way to cheat on my video media limits (YouTube specifically) by playing the media on my monitor and then clicking a non-blocked process on my laptop screen. This allows me to use only a couple of seconds of my limit on opening the video and occasional pausing it, while the video itself can be of various lengths, sometimes longer than my 40min/day allowed time.
I was wondering if there is a way that the app could catch this? I imagine it would be difficult, but perhaps a solution would be to continue counting down the timer if the app catches YouTube playing a video in the background.
I will note that this exploit only works on video-related blocks, things like social media or gaming (which require constant interaction) can't be used this way.
If you want to block windows 10 store apps by process, you will not be able to use the Focusme helper tool to find the name of the process as it will give you ApplicationFrameHost.exe. To find the actual process that the app runs on you can use the command in the command prompt: "tasklist /APPS" after starting the target app. This will display all the processes which are being used to run windows store apps.
A few I have found from this and personally tested include:
windows store: WinStore.App.exe
Xbox app: XboxApp.exe
Films & Tv: Video.UI.exe
Microsoft Edge: MicrosoftEdge.exe
Facebook Messenger: WinUAPEntry.exe
There appear to be a few system processes which are also listed when you use the command so be careful when choosing processes to block when using this method.
Blocking by process for these windows store apps enables them to be blocked by Focusme even when their window is inactive.
I would recommend this method also be shown in the help guides.
Previously I used the Firefox add-on 'Leech Block' to control my distracting desires, but unfortunately it could not stop me from just going to Microsoft Edge which cannot be uninstalled!
Ideally I would eventually love to see all the functionality of Leech Block appeear in FocusMe, but for now, the most desirable thing would be more options for the different Time Periods you can select when using the Time Limit option of FocusMee.
FocusMe has the options of:
per hour
per day
per week
per month
Leech Block has these extra options:
15 mins
30 mins
2 hours
3 hours
4 hours
6 hours
8 hours
12 hours
2 days
3 days
4 days
I see the links to them in the change log (https://focusme.com/download/addons/firefox/), but when I open them they just download a .xpi file that I don't know what to do with.
The Web and App Stats in FocusMe are fantastic and a big part of why I've stuck with the program. They've helped me become more aware of just how much we can underestimate time spent on stuff.
What would make it even better though is a sort of daily timeline that could show us an overview of what we did at each hour of that day. This would preferably integrate both Web and App stats. Maybe only include websites/apps visited for at least 5 mins.
It would also solve the annoyance of skewing the stats when I use the computer past midnight.
Looking forward to see FocusMe getting even better in 2019
I have Vivaldi and it looks it's not supported right now, so I came with idea to keep list of supported browsers and requests of support. So anybody can report status or request support without making new thread for it
Note for admins: Feel free to modify it
[supported] Chrome [not sure] Safari [supported] Edge [supported] Internet explorer [supported] Firefox [supported] Opera
